With the New Year come thoughts of gaming plans for the coming 12 months. I seem to have already committed to more ADLG and D&D. Malifaux is still fun and I’m keen to get going again with Warmachine/Hordes. I’m sure though that I can squeeze something else in, but what?
So, with “Vikings” back on some TV screens, the Last Kingdom have just been re-shown (and a second series due this year) and more of my Jomsvikings (don’t make them angry) coming of the painting table I’m drawn back to Saga.
“What is Saga?” I hear you cry. Well, Saga is a fun system for skirmish level games set in the dark ages or early medieval period. With the current, or forthcoming, supplements you can lead a warband of steadfast Saxons, angry Jomsvikings, sneaky Welsh, devout Crusaders, cultured Byzantines or a host of others. The “armies” are small and the rules are well supported by Gripping Beast who generally do very nice figures (they also offer readymade warbands and starter sets at a discount). It is a simple looking game but with surprising depth. A game the gives victory to the cunning and brave players rather than to the perfectly crafted army. So can I tempt anyone into joining me for some dark age mayhem? I’ve rather more dark age models than I really need, so would be happy to lend some lead to those interested. If there is enough of us I'd be happy to run a league.
