Nick, I'd be happy to break out the old toys again but someone is going to have to explain how you select an army! I can't make head nor tail of all this formations, detachments, data slates stuff. I've tried using Army Builder but that just tells me that everything I do is illegal!
The 'highlander' overlay is also confusing me. For example in the Space Wolves Codex the Rhino is under Fast Attack, so does that mean I can't take a second Rhino to carry my Hunters without taking one of every Fast Attack type?
Regards C

Everything is a detachment and formations are a type of detachment, so things like CAD, Allied Detachment, The Wolves Unleashed detachment have a standard old fashioned FOC but are becoming rare, other than the first two. All Formations can be used on there own as a detachment like a Battle Demi-Company (Space Marines), Warpflame Host (daemons), Infiltration Cadre (Tau) and you can have a whole army of formations if you want in normal games of 40K each one being a detachment. There are also rules for multiple formations to be used as one Detachment like a super detachment that have a slightly different FOC to the old style ones these only has restrictions for Core, Aux, Command and each formation is one of those three, these are things like The Gladius Strike Force (Space Marines), The Decurion (Necrons), Wolf Claw Strike Force (Spaaaaaace Wolves). The point to these super detachments are they added extra rules to the detachment when you include the minimum requirements, like free transports in the Gladius.
So in the Highlander you can have a maximum of 2 detachments made up of the ones above but they cannot break the other rules of the Highlander format. The multiples of units only applies to Troops and thus dedicated transports, all other units are unique 0-1 (Squadrons become 0-1 as well) so only one Rhino, Razorback or drop pod are allowed unless you take one of each dedicated transport as that will be used for you troops though I would say yes to fast attack Rhino/Razorback/Drop Pod as its on a unit by unit basis and the dedicated transports are in a unit of whatever they are carrying but only one of each fast attack type.

The only up to date Codex I have is Space Wolves. So if I used the Wolves Unleashed detachment would this be legal:-
HQ1 - Bjorn the Fell Handed HQ2 - Rune Priest Troop1 - Pack Leader with 9 Grey Hunters and a Rhino Troop 2 - Pack Leader with 9 Grey Hunters and a Rhino Elite - 5 Wolf Guard Terminators in a Stormwolf Fast Attack 1 - Landspeeder Fast Attack 2 - 6 Thunderwolves

That's a bit of a blow.
I thought I had understood it! I thought (based on the examples Nic gave in the tournament pack that the 'highlander' restrictions cut in only after you'd taken the things that are compulsory in the detachment. I also thought that transports were treated as part of the unit they are attached to.
I don't have Lukas, Blood Claws, or a Drop Pod. (I don't actually have a Stormwolf but I bought the kit a couple of years back so I might as well build it).
Would this do it?
HQ1 Bjorn HQ2 Rune Priest Troop1 - Pack Leader plus 9 Grey Hunters in Rhino Troop2 - 10 Blood Claws in Stormwolf Elite - 5 Wolf Guard Terminators (these boys'll just have to deep strike) Heavy - 6 Long Fangs in Razorback Fast Landspeeder Fast 6 Thunderwolves
Thanks C

Hi Chris, that list looks good, and quite fluffy. As Matt is playing salamanders, you and Dean can be wolf brothers for this tournament . Any chance you could type your list up with all the upgrades in an email, and send it over to me, and I'll pop it into Battlescribe.

Yes unfortunately I've abandoned the Pack this year. Although my list last year was more of a Wolfy/Sisters-y/Knight-y mess.
Chris - if you are after any practice games before the competition starts, let me know. I can bring along a Stormwolf and Blood Claws if you are still building yours.
