Another Friday another game system. This week I had the good fortune to play Alastair with his undead army in Kings of War by Mantic games. I was playing Forces of the Abyss (aka daemons of chaos). 2000 points aside proved to provide an entertaining battle. This was Alastairs first game & my fifth., so very much a learning exercise. The game is picked up fairly quickly with a relatively simple rule set compared to 8th edition fantasy. So much so we easily completed the game even with frequent stops for rule clarification. Without question the complexity of the game is the movement phase, not dissimilar to WFB 7th ed with the fixed charge distance. Alistair had over 160 models on the table, but there was no problem with delays for figure moving. All In all we both concluded that we will be playing more games of KOW, & we have a rematch already booked. We played the kill mission, and I was fortunate enough to win with some fly moves that Alastair failed to spot.

I like the fact the game is played on the ceiling, excellent space saving idea...

I know the curse of posting from a tablet. This forum seems to work best for PC when pics are concerned.

I think kings of war is a good game. With no figure removal ( until a unit goes, and leaves a big gap!) its more about manoeuvre rather than designing the killing unit of killingness. Last time I was in Warboar, I picked up the historical kings of war book. A good thing about this is because it's all about the unit size and footprint, you can use Armies based for various systems in the same game... so Empire Armies can fight ancient Romans and so on. I think it's well worth persevering with. Paul G and I played a fantasy game, tomb kings versus Ogres, about 3500 points a side and finished it easily in an afternoon.

I have now played 6 games with two different armies, and have found them to be very enjoyable. Playing about 2000pts is easily completed in an evening at the club. There is plenty of time for rule clarifications, and know one feels under pressure time wise which can happen at the club when playing WFB8.
I am lining up to play some more intro games to other club members, & i think there could be some legs in running a 2017 competition.
