Dear all,
Many battles were fought on Friday. I have reports from most of them, so will cut to the chase and let you have them.
First off, Ken and dean had a battle, with Ken being consistently successful in the comp. Ken has promised a report but may put it direct onto the forum
Another 10-7 win, so at least his opponents are fighting hard.
Max played Chris and won. Here's his report
"Well obviously I was brilliant.
We both had similar armies that relied heavily on cavalry bow, who could evade. So getting the initiative and moving first was key.
Due to my clever planning I had invested in enough light cavalry and a strategist to give me a much higher initiative. Chris had spent his points on making his cavalry meaner, but without room to evade this was not much help.
I got the initiative and flung the army forward. Chris had no room to manoeuvre. If he fled he would go of the table. Or he could fight heavy chariots. Not much of a choice. Chris tried both fleeing and fighting and got pasted. As he gloomy observed the game was effectively over by the end of turn one.
His cavalry destroyed, my chariots ran amok. Because I had room I could contain his chariots with my medium cavalry. It was all about initiative."
And modest with it.
I played Gavin, and have a report that Gavin sent in
"
Tony Rodwell's NK Egyptians took on my Hittites last Friday. The battle was decided by his excellent deployment in the face of challenging terrain, a good balance between goading missile fire and strong melee capability, and some careless tactical decisions on my part.
A thick wood on the Hittite left gave way to open terrain, and then a deep marsh in the centre. To the right was open plain with impassible terrain on the right edge narrowing the battlefield. I deployed my defending Hittites strung out across the board, allowing Tony to deploy his attacking Egyptians to counter each of the Hittite commands in turn. Tony's swift advance allowed his army to escape the constraints of blocking terrain on their rear edge.
On the Hittite left, Syrian javelinmen advanced too far and were caught in a wood by aggressive Sherden mercenaries at a serious disadvantage. The two Sherden units tied up five Hittite units for the whole game. In the left centre Hittite and Anatolian foot, and Syrian chariots, faced off against Egyptian impact khopesh-men for a score draw.
In the centre, Hittite slingers over-reached themselves and were shot up by Egyptian bow, while the Hittite spearmen in support waded slowly through the central marsh. The Hittite foot then attacked out of the marsh but failed to clear it and were held at a disadvantage by the Egytpian foot facing them.
The decisive battle took place on the Hittite right where the main chariot force was deployed. Six Egyptian light chariouts advanced swiftly and shot up the five Hittite chariots with plenty of space for a controlled retreat, inflicitng casualties as they went. With the Hittite foot tied up in the central marsh the unsupported Hittite chariots were forced to keep going forwards. Their two Anatolian light chariot supports were forced into a suicide mission to hold up the Egyptian left flank foot and chariot reserve.
The Hittite chariots eventually caught up with their Egyptian foes, but were shot up and overlapped. On the last turn their attempt to break through was foiled, and the Egyptian chariot reserve arrived to smash their flank.
10-7 to Tony and a fully deserved victory. "
So thank you to Gavin for that.
The league tables are beginning to get filled in, which is good, so keep playing the games
