Hi all,
Find attached to this thread, the 2017 Whfb competition pack and terrain table. I'll add results sheets and a quick lookup scenario sheet as well.
If you are planning to take part, please confirm to myself by 31 July.
Lists need to be with myself and Steve Mc by the 11 August to qualify for bonus points.
Can I ask that all lists are submitted by 2 September to allow the draw to be made the following week.
The timings for the competition stages will be confirmed once I have a clearer idea on the number of entrants.
Any questions, (or if I've made any glaring mistakes) please let me know here, or drop myself and Steve an email.
Mark

Yes. See if he pops down Friday, otherwise I can text him/pass on your number to him - don't type it in here, I'll be down Friday.
I'm interested in the competition, the rats will return. I might have some questions, I'll let you know after I've read your pack - nicely done btw, cheers.

HI Mark
Quick question regarding the comp rules.
On the section of general restrictions there are two restrictions: "One character over 425 points (after all upgrades)" "One unit over 450 points (after all upgrades)"
My question is: If you have a character over 450 points does that count as one or both restrictions?
For example, let's say I have a 500 points character and 3 flying units, will I have three restrictions (triggering a 20 vp penalty during the group rounds) or only two restrictions (therefore no penalty)?

HI Mark Quick question regarding the comp rules. On the section of general restrictions there are two restrictions: "One character over 425 points (after all upgrades)" "One unit over 450 points (after all upgrades)" My question is: If you have a character over 450 points does that count as one or both restrictions? For example, let's say I have a 500 points character and 3 flying units, will I have three restrictions (triggering a 20 vp penalty during the group rounds) or only two restrictions (therefore no penalty)? Hi antonio , If you have a character over 425 points it counts as one restriction. The characters cost is completely separate to any unit that they might be placed in. A character is anything in the lords/heroes section whereas a unit is meant to signify rank and file, whether infantry, cavalry, Monstrous cavalry etc. (so I suppose anything in the core/special/rare). In hindsight using the lord/hero/core/special split is probably much clearer so i'll add it to the next release of the comp doc, especially as you are the second person to ask the question. So for your example, if I understood it clearly, it would only count as 2 restrictions (so no deductions). One for the character over 425pts and one for having 3 flying units (though if the character cost more than 500pts and was on a flying mount, it would also count towards 1 of the 3 flying things). M

Updated the thread with the latest comp pack:
v1.4 (06/08/2017)
General Restrictions
Clarified what the points restrictions for characters and units applied to (see below exert).
Characters (Lords/Heroes choice) over 425pts in cost (after any upgrades/items)
Any Unit (Core/Special/Rare choice) exceeding 450pts (after any upgrades/items)
FAQ/Errata/House Rules
Added in a section around Tomb Kings and the crumble tests.
Added in that fleeing units award 50% of their cost as victory points.
Scenarios
Loot - Updated the rules around picking up a token after defeating a unit in combat.
Wicked Woods – Updated the dangerous Terrain rules and how the scenario is won.

Updated with Comp pack version 1.5 (19/08/2017).
Changes/updates given below.
Army Lists
Added the army list cut-off date and extended this to 2 September.
General Restrictions
Update to what counts towards the Wizard Levels. Units that count as casters (such as Doomfire Warlocks and Sisters of the Thorn) do now count towards the 5 level cap. So you could take a unit of 5 Sisters (level 2) and a Spell weaver (level 3) and that would be level 5.
Scenarios
Dawn Attack - Updated the rules around capturing quadrants.
** A quadrant is claimed by the general with the highest number of non-fleeing units Fortitude*** bearing units, wholly in that quadrant
Invade – Added clarification to the victory condition.
Victory goes to the general with the most non-fleeing Unit Fortitude*** in his opponent’s half at the end of the battle
Wicked Woods - Added confirmation that there are no saves allowed for any of the damage caused by the woods (whether dangerous terrain or the direct damage caused at the end of the movement phase).

Group Draws
The draw for the groups is due to take place on Friday 8th September.
Plagiarising Neil and the KOW comp, a thread for each group will be started here and tables updated.
Documents
In preparation for the quick off I've updated the 2nd post in this thread with a document that gives just the Scenarios, Missions and FAQs, as it will mean you won't need to bring a full pack with you (less printing!).
I have also attached a quick start document in PDF format. This will allow you to electronically complete the document and email it to myself with your results (as lets be honest I'm not at the club every week). It comes complete with drop down menus for the missions etc. to save typing. I do have a number of printed versions that will be on the club board.
The next version of the comp pack updated with the groups, who qualifies and dates, will be posted after the draw and emailed out too.
Army Lists
Lists will all be posted for everyone to view within the individual group threads on the forum. Copies of the lists will also be printed and available on the club board.

First game on Friday so I decided to read the Rules Pack.
Wow! It's pretty complicated and some of the scenarios are going to be very hard for some armies and dead easy for others. Perhaps I should have read the pack before picking the army!
Example - Wicked Woods - easy if you have a horde army (eg Skaven) or better still can summon models, tricky if you use small elite units.
I think I'll just rely on my basic strategy - kill everything.

When you factor in the secret missions, the game can become quite complex, especially as denying your opponent his secret mission is almost as important as achieving yours. Thats why the canny players play their games later so as to see other players secret missions played giving them a slight advantage. With only having to contend with denying perhaps 3 options instead of 5? Of course you'd never catch me trying such a crafty strategy.
