Tonight saw the first game played in Group B. The scenario was wicked woods and Chris pulled out a win over Joe and completed his mission to get a healthy 25 - 9 score.

Friday saw the second game in Group B played. This time Chris faced off against Antonio and much to Chris's disgust it was the Wicked Woods again. Below is a snippet from Chris himself.
A good fun hard-fought game that saw only Melvin (the Daemon Prince) and the Warshrine still alive at the end of the game on my side of the table. Antonio lost his Archmage, Phoenix Guard, Dragon Princes, and Reavers and just 5 Spearmen plus his BSB survived to claim victory for him on the last turn by entering the Wicked Woods.
It all happened – Okkam’s went off, the Frostheart held up my Daemon Prince forever, I had 6 goes at creating a second Daemon Prince (all failed), we both rolled Irresistible Force spells and his Archmage self-immolated.

Friday saw (in his final game) Chris's Chaos Warriors face Steve's High Elves. In his words:
The scenario was Secure. At the game’s end Steve had 3 points to my 2 and so won the game. It was a shame we timed out as his Archmage and BSB were dead, the Frosty was fleeing, and I had 2 Daemon Princes on the table. With 3 more turns I think I might have made back the deficit.
It ended up 15-13 points in Steve's favour as although he won, he failed to achieve his mission (deliver a message), whereas Chris did with Hero Hammered.
So Chris currently stands top of the group with 52 points but can only wait to see if that is enough to qualify for the knockouts.

Both my losses, against Antonio and Steve, have been close.
Against Antonio I had a T6 chance to stop him getting the final scenario point that brought him a win but mucked it up. I cast Curse of the Leper to reduce the Toughness of the Frosty facing Melvin (the Daemon Prince) then Plague Wind on Antonio's spear unit. The latter is a vortex that requires a toughness test. As it was I reduced the unit to 8 models. On his T6 Antonio only lost 2 more models to the wicked woods, leaving a scoring unit of 6 models. But what if I had cast Curse of the Leper on the spearmen? 2 extra casualties from Plague Wind (likely if I had reduced T3 to T1) would have changed the game.
Against Steve, Melvin had a final round of combat v 8 Phoenix Guard and Steve's Archmage on just 1 remaining wound. I made 5 attacks against the Archmage, killing it. Then stomped 3 of the Phoenix Guard. But that left 5 models and, although they were in combat with Melvin, they were close enough to a hill occupied by my Skullcrushers to deny me a point for securing it. Again, my decision-making let me down. If I had launched all Melvin's attacks on the Guard, the game would have been drawn.
So now I'm sitting with fingers crossed hoping that the remaining 3 games produce the results I need.
Regards C

In the third game of last Friday, Joe's Vampires faced off against Antonio's High Elves in the Scenario Eliminate. Antonio won 23-9, picking up his 'Raid the Baggage' objective whilst Joe didn't achieve 'To see what I can see'.
This win puts Antonio one point behind Chris with one game left to play, so unless he drops out of the comp/doesn't complete the final game, the best position Chris can now achieve is the runner up spot which would put him in a quarter final vs the winner of Group C.

Joe played his final game against Steve on Friday. The scenario was Dawn attack and Steve apparently sneaked a win on the last turn. He also managed to stop Joe achieving his secondary mission (of take a message) whilst successfully making his (raid the baggage).
In terms of the table, there are no changes to the positions.
There is one final game to play (Antonio vs Steve). Antonio only needs to turn up to qualify, where as Steve needs 9 points (so a loss and his secondary mission or alternatively a draw).
Chris will have to wait a while longer to see if he is through to the next round.

The final game of the group was played on Friday with Antonio securing the win over Steve. The confirmed Antonio as the winner of the group.
Steve did manage to complete his secondary mission thus beating Chris by a mere 2 points, securing the runner up spot in the group.
Congratulations to them both.
