There's been some chatter about running a Blood Bowl league.
I've never played it but I have the 3rd edition boxed set and some metal figures as well! So, on the basis that I'd like to use the toys having bought them, I'm preparing to join any league that gets going.
First step was reading my 3rd edition rules. Now I'm assuming the game hasn't changed much but what am I going to need rules-wise? The latest rules obviously, but do I need the supplements as well?
Second step was painting the Dark Elves. But are they are a legal team and, if so, where do I find their current stats - Move, Str, agility, Armour, Cost, Special Abilities?
Third, if the Dark Elves are not legal I've got an Undead team and a Special Character Vampire in metal, the Human team from the box with a Special Character in metal, and the same for the Orcs. Should I paint up one of these?
Lastly is this going to be a league that uses just the basic rules and a few special characters or will it be going the whole hog in terms of special characters, wizards on the sidelines, and Dwarf steamrollers?
Regards Chris

No idea on any of the league bit above but I think the rules haven't changed much since 3rd edition. The Dark elf rules are in the Deathzone season 1 supplement (I've attached the errata for this release below). I've also attached the teams of legend rules. Some of these are covered in the Deathzone season 2 book (Edit: Norse are not in DZ 2) but not sure if the others will be allowed in the league. teams_of_legend_en.pdf (554.18 KB) death_zone_season_one_en.pdf (638.75 KB) There is also an FAQ for the main rules. This + the above two can be found on the GW site at the bottom of the linked page: Errata and FAQ

Paul, I do so love a bit of negativity! All you need is a team and access to the rules. Rules for teams are in most of the books (they don't actually have individual codexs, just a few lines of stats) and I'm more than happy to lend people copies of my books to get team stats in order to facilitate their playing. The extra rules needed to play are mostly in the rules pack that me and Pete wrote and those that aren't are being considered optional rules. You don't need the cards (they're optional) and I'm sorting several pitches, sets of dice and templates for the club so all people will need is figures. Granted there might be the odd faq that GW releases (for free...) but as the system has remained largely the same as it was in the Living Rulebook days there hasn't been that much need for rules changes Total cost to coaches to play in this league? I think the new teams are about £20/£25 but a lot of people have old teams and the models are still usable. Even the most staunch GW hater must appreciate this is quite a low cost game to get into.

Rule 1 of being a SELWG member - Never let Paul get under your skin. I did, years ago, and it has reduced me to the shambling wreck I am today. I was 6' tall once upon a time- really! Chris

New question. I'm awaiting my copy of The Inaugural Almanac (or whatever silly name it has) and this might answer the question, but if 1 million GPs isn't enough to hire 12 players do I start with just 10 or 9 players, or is there a mechanic to ensure I start with a full roster?
The old rules required each team to start with 12 players, plus spend some money on other things like re-rolls and fans, but it allowed you free linebackers to make up the numbers if your roster fell short of 12 players.

Hi chrisr, teams must have 11 players. That appears to be the only stipulation (Deathzone 1 just refers back to page 22 of the rule book on team roster selection). So you will need to cut rerolls or take cheaper players to fulfil the number requirements. (At least when you create the roster). Edit: to add to the above, the ‘free’ lineman you refer to (or journey man is it is now called), only comes into play after you have played a game and suffered casualties and due to that, cannot afford to buy new players in the post match sequence
