So... I bought into the latest deal for the updated bolt action rules and an infantry set. I went for commandos and was list writing and realised I knew nothing about the game... What is the normal points for games? The list I came up with was 1000pts and I tried to keep it small and elite (and purely infantry), what do people think?
Platoon commander
forward observer
3 units of 10 commandos with a variety of weapons, each unit has LMG and anti tank grenades
4 heavy teams - medium machine gun, sniper team, antitank gun and a light mortar
as I've never played the game I was wondering how the above force might fare, any advice would be appreciated cos the sooner I make some kind of decision the quicker I get to build😀

The best people to speak to are Neil H, or Nick C. At the club from what i have seen so far 1000pts is the normal game size.
As for advice on what is useful i have no idea, as like you i am new to the game.

Ok Just joined the forum and saw your post chris . In essence 1000 pts is about the maximum for a 6' x 4' table and is usually what we have as a points value for most games. Your list looks fine, Bolt Action is primarily designed for infantry action with armour support. The list has a variety of units but is a good basis for building up a decent collection from which to draw your figures depending on your opponent.

There are several members playing Bolt action. We had a game last Friday between Germans and Brits, late war. My Brits got slaughtered. My army is normally Commandoes. Best way to work out your army is go to bolt action.easyarmy.com. Look forward to playing with/against you. We often play 4 to a table with 1000 points per side which gets you into the rules.
