Dear all,
as the Medieval competition winds up ( 15mm ended up with two finalists and no champion, 25mm is at the semi final stage) Ive been asked to consider running another one, using Hoplites in teh classical period.
I have come up with the following parameters:
1. The armies are to be chosen from the timespan 600BC to 360BC.
2. The armies originating country/empire/homeland must touch the Mediterranean or Black Sea ( to be approved by me)
3. Any army not having 6 units of heavy spear has a penalty of minus 2 points score per battle.
4. using Early or Late Achaemenid Persian, or Urartu gain plus 2 points per battle.
5 No army may use more than 4 heavy chariots with impact.
6. No army may use pikes ( Ive tried to cut them out with the timespan. If Ive missed any, this covers it)
So you are free to use camillan Roman, Scythian or Gallic but there is a big minus. Point 4 is because the Persians should be able to fight the Greeks without any additional penalties, and Urartu also probably need the balancing up. Its all about the Hoplites...
It will be a one list competition, submitted to me and checked by me. This is to encourage people to take an 'all round' army, that will have strengths and weaknesses, which should mean that battles will be fought and decisive, instead of coming up against a perfectly crafted enemy resulting in a mutual stand off.
I am sending this to all the people who i think may be interested. If you are, please email me that you are, and whether you want to play 15mm, 25mm or both scales. There should also be some loan armies available if you have not got one of your own, so please let me know if you would need to borrow figures.
When I have an idea of how many people want to play, well see if this is viable.
Here's hoping
Tony
