Being a tale from the Malifux Campaign in which our hero, brave and plucky Leviticus, leads his crew of mercenaries, demons, manifestations of the void and strange semi-mechanical undead things towards his glorious future.
The story so far - after sending his crew of assorted ruffians out on various missions, from each of which they have returned victorious and only slightly bloody, our hero has now decided to lead them out in person, feelng the hand of destiny gently pushing him in the back, thrusting him towards who knows where. In this week's episode our star has been hired to carry out a little sabotage in order to try and keep the number of swamp fiends down, as well as go hunting for a "Teddy Bear" but finds himself opposed by a strange figure of a floating child in a night gown apparently leading a collection of creatures claiming the world of Malifaux as their own -the Neverborn are having a picnic. Now read on for this (poorly written) description of events:
“Yes boss. We saw it this morning, bright pink, hurrying this way.” Replied the Librarian.
Leviticus harrumphed and continued to squelch forwards. He’d been intrigued by the tail of an oversize, and seemingly homicidal, teddy bear ever since his crew had come back to the Surprised Gremlin, he saloon opposite Salvage and Logistics, talking about having meet one (accompanied by what seemed to be some children and a human-frog mix). They said that it had run away and hid before they could kill it, so Leviticus had decided to lead out a small hunting party. Well, that and Tara had asked him to drop some things off round here.
Just as they were approaching the spot Tara had described, and Leviticus was beginning to despair of finding this mythical beast, a high pitched voice called out “Go away, we’re playing here!” Leviticus looked up in surprise to see a small, slightly translucent boy, floating a little ahead of him before he suddenly vanished behind a line o trees that hadn’t been there a moment ago. From beyond the trees came he sounds of some rather deranged giggling and of something (things?) large moving towards his crew.
“Neverborn! Let’s get’em” shouted Alyce as she ran towards the cover of battered building. Eyes glowing Dust and Ashes swept past her. Leviticus turned towards Hannah and her Freikorps, waving them on before he ran after Alyce. Alyce laughed as a strange wave of force swept towards her and then back to where it had come, followed by a cry of anguish.
Coming round the building he found himself facing a strange, purplish, creature looking like a humanoid frog/spider cross in a rather fetching dress just as the waters rose in the bog, covering the ground in standing water. He reached out and pulled at the strings of reality, seeing the creature crumple as he did so. He smiled, and then everything went black just after a strangely mobile human shape made out of sacking came into sight, and he stepped back into reality next to one of his waifs, just into time to see Hannah strike down a swirling, changing, mass of limbs and gibbering laughter.
Suddenly, crashing through the undergrowth was a huge nightmare of a child’s teddy bear. Its “fur” was bright pink, with massive stitches across its chest and around its tubular arms. Arms that ended in sharp and fearsome claws. And its speed! It was on Hannah so quickly, its arms moving so fast, that before Leviticus knew what was happening Hannah’s armour was wrecked and she was unmoving on the ground. At the same time Alyce cried out in pain and Leviticus could see another of those strange man-shaped sacks cavorting in joy. His anger rising up he charged towards it, ripping it apart.
As he did so he saw Dust and Ashes strike down what appeared to be a baby holding a very large, bloody, knife. He also saw the little boy again. He had floated around the hedge in front of him. The boy turned to the bear and said “Get them Teddy!” Suddenly it as between him and Alyce, and before he could do anything he found himself once more called back to reality by one his waifs, with Alyce lying insensate on the ground!
Leviticus gave an anguished cry, but Fredreich in his strong arm suit, leapt forwards and rained down blows on the bear, quickly reducing it to a pile of stuffing and fur.
“Teddy!” shouted the little boy, followed by “Ow!” Jayanne was advancing towards him spitting ancient curses as she did so. “Stop it! That’s not plying fair! You’re not very nice! I don’t like you!” cried the boy as he slowly faded away.
Leviticus smiled. Perhaps now with their leader gone and so many of them out of the fight the Neverborn would leave and let him get on with his job (as well as taking the teddy back to study). He brushed some sort of walking tree out of his way as another “sacking man” fell apart as the wave of power it sent towards him bounced back on to it. He leapt over the hedge and dropped the package that Tara had given him. Job done.
Leviticus saw his little void wretch running to meet him, chased by another walking tree. He thought little of it as he turned to go, only to see another roiling ball of limbs and shifting colours heading towards him. He heard strange whispers in his ear and found he couldn’t move. It all seemed to go very quickly after that. The strange Neverborn thing an back the way it came, leaving only a few small, slowly fading, little things bouncing around plus the tree. That knocked the poor wretch to the ground before Frederich reduced it to splinters. Leviticus slowly regained control of his limbs, and ran to find that Alyce had simply been winded by the bear but was otherwise fine, as was Hannah (after some repairs to her suit). The Waifs, and the little abomination hammered into the ground by a tree, would need a little work but otherwise were fine. All in all, not a bad day’s work even if rumour had it that Lillith had placed a bounty on his head. Apparently those little devices had broken the Neverborn connection to that part of the land. It had been a breeding ground for the tree things and swampfiends, but no more. "Ho hum" thought Leviticus, "let us see who trys to collect on that".
Leviticus will be back in "'Hold on! That's my Apocalypse!' or 'Where's my Avatar?'"

"The Bicker in the bog"
“Jayanne, are you sure you saw this ‘Teddy’ thing round here?” asked Leviticus as his gaze swept the mournful bog and the derelict remains of a hamlet.“Yes boss. We saw it this morning, bright pink, hurrying this way.” Replied the Librarian.
