The Dreamer walked out of the mist to be faced by a thick swamp. In the middle loomed a huge obelisk that radiated magical energy…curiosity drove him toward it. Flanked by the remnants of his crew (a Teddy, the strange Baby named Kade, the Widow Weaver, the strange tree like Waldgeist and the Doppleganger with flayed skin) he headed through a gap between a particularly marshy bit of ground and a huge bare-stone hill. He was concerned. Ever since he had returned and been driven back again by those mysterious creatures in the swamp he had felt himself changing. Several of his crew had slowly faded away…gradually over several days and now were completely gone. But at the same time he had felt his old powers returning. Perhaps today he would get to try them out.
As he moved toward the obelisk, the Dreamer thought he saw movement on the other side of clearing is was situated in. Shadows rushing through the stones and swampy ground and in front of him the silhouette of a man 8 feet tall at least. The pace of the crew quickened, tensions rising. Suddenly the Widow Weaver let out a cry “That is Marcus! They say he has evidence that tells how to close the breach and return this land to its true state!”
Marcus – so his enemy had a name. And his enemy had something that could be very useful indeed in the onward journey; something the dreamer must retrieve! Time to test whether his powers had returned to their full strength. The Dreamer closed his eyes and concentrated….suddenly two shapes materialised by him; a random collection of limbs and flesh. He caught a glimpse of them before they hastened away; he knew they would return and bring with them the evidence he sought.
Suddenly, the Dreamer felt bullets whizzing past his crew from opposite directions; he recognised two December Acolytes. They would need to be dealt with; the dreamer was confident this time. He summoned two Stitched Together nightmares to deal with the snipers and then, in a test of his power, felt the shape of Copellious materialise and stalk toward one of the gun-men. Suddenly the Dreamer felt reality split and he momentarily lost his grip on the world, transforming into the beast that stalked his nightmares Lord Chompy Bits. This time it was just a momentary lapse however and he soon returned to his body. By the time he was able to regain focus, he noticed that his crew had started to disperse. The Inscidious Madness had already collected two of the evidence bags from Marcus; Copellius and a Stitched Together were heading toward the December Acolyte and the main thrust of his crew, including Teddy and baby Kade were heading toward Marcus. Good – he was not going to be defeated this time.
As the Dreamer surveyed the battle he noticed a Blessed of December behind a wooded outcrop. He had always felt slightly unnerved by those creatures – thankfully one of those creatures that he daydreamed about had spotted it too and pushed Teddy toward the damn thing. In one fell swoop, Teddy was on top of the Blessed creature and it was no more, in a flurry of claws and teeth! As simple as that, but not before the Widow Weaver had been shot and clawed to death by one of those snipers and the Blessed of December.
At this point the dreamer started to feel a level of self control. He spotted his inscidious madness collect the final piece of evidence, and whilst there did seem to be a new shadow in the distance, that of a monstrous ape, he wasn’t too concerned. He knew that Copellius and those minions he had dispatched would deal with the ape, and Mauler that was situated on that side of the clearing as well! The Dreamer had bigger things to deal with. Marcus. The coward was running from him, hiding behind the rocks. He could smell his fear in the air, and sent his best enforcers after him; Teddy, baby Kade and the Doppleganger. They might need help – the Dreamer summoned the demon nightmares to help; Lelu and Lilitu.
As a force with one purpose they 5 models closed down on Marcus and his Henchman, Myranda. The demon Lilitu used her power of beauty to lure Marcus to her, and he could not resist. That was ultimately his failure, as he was suddenly pounced on by Teddy, the Doppleganger and Baby Kade. Nobody could withstand that assault, and sure enough Marcus followed the Blessed of December, December Acolyte and Widow Weaver to his grave.
With Marcus gone, the Dreamer’s crew made short work of Myranda and the ape monster. The only close shave the Dreamer had was when the second December Acolyte shot him, but he had the mental fortitude to transfer that wound onto his remaining daydream; sacrifices had to be made and following that his Waldgesit planted some protective cover to keep him safe.
Victory was his this day; but what would the new week bring?

Paul and I played a hugely enjoyable game; our story encounter was for me to collect 3 pieces of evidence from his board half (at least one in his deployment zone) and he had to kill my Master and Henchmen. For him this meant the Widow Weaver (check) and Dreamer. Unfortunately, the Dreamer is incredibly difficult to kill as he can transfer damage to any nightmare within 3” and transform into Lord Chompy Bits for long periods of the game if need be. I managed to get my strategy (4VP) but Paul didn’t get his.
In terms of schemes, I had assassinate (I killed Marcus but on T5 so only 2VP) and murder protégé (I killed the Blessed of December for 3VP from unrevealed scheme). Paul had a faction scheme and dropped more scheme markers than me (3VP) and I don’t recall his other scheme, but he got a few VP from it.
The real difference in this game was that my **** to play summoning dreamer paid off – I had scrapped 4 models in my crew and spent 10 scrip on a 5ss upgrade (the most expensive in the game I understand). From this I was able to summon a total of 44ss of models during the game (2 inscidious madness, 2 stitched together, Lelu, Lilitu and Copellius). With the Dreamer’s ability to heal models within 6” this gave me a huge number of additional models all of whom were able to regain all their wounds, having been summoned with only 1 wound left. Luck of the cards maybe, but one I hope to repeat in the future!
