Here is a brief report of the Necron Dark Eldar encounter with Ben.
As always Ben is a pleasure to play & proved a worthy opponent. This was a rematch of last years 40K final, except Ben was using an IG army last year. So the mission was fixed on kill points, which was a distinct advantage to me. I had 11 potential kill points were as Ben had a whopping 19. We played the diagonal deployment, & I deployed first & took first turn. Ben did mange to get night fighting into effect for the first turn.
I had two Destroyer units in reserve, & Ben had 2 scourge units, the Razorwing, & the Heamonculus death star.
T1 No first Blood, but I managed to make several Venoms/Raiders/Revengers jink. Wraiths charged across the battlefield, & did VOD on the Praetorians. This turned out be a pointless exercise as Ben moved his units away from this unit & ultimately they contributed very little in the battle. Ben’s jinking Ravenger managed to hit & penetrate my Bastion, much to my annoyance. This proved to an ongoing feature of the game as I moved my warriors/Immortals in & out of the Bastion, trying to avoid the numerous Lance shots being fired. The Bastion finally blew up in T5 with both units inside & dying yielding 2 kill points!!
Much to my surprise the Archon & the Incubi leapt out of their respective venoms & charged a depleted unit of Wraiths. One other notable point in T1 was Ben managing to immobilise a Venom on the centre piece of terrain.
T2 I manged to get first Blood by destroying the afore mentioned Venom. The two Destroyer units Deep striked & manged to force more jinking & finally removing the final hull point of the Ravenger. The Raider finally was wrecked & its occupants scurried away into cover. The ongoing combat with the Incubi/Archon/Wraiths was over in Bens T2 with the Wraiths wining. The Archon had the 2++ save, & Ben promptly rolled a “one” on his first save from a S6 hit causing instant Death.
Bens T2 arrivals were the Heamonculus death star which deep striked near the Bastion, & the Razorwing which concentrated its fire power on the recently arrived Destroyers. Due to the Bastion being what seemed to be permanently stunned only snap shots were being fired.
T3 saw more jinking from Ben, although the Razorwing never jinked. The Raider occupants hiding in the cover were shot by the Praetorian's, & promptly failed their morale check & run away, which was annoying as the Praetorian's now had a double 6 charge which they failed. So the second unit of Wraiths had to mop up the survivors.
The 3 Wraiths that had duffed up the Archon now charged the Heamonculus & his buddies. This proved to be a slow developing combat due to the majority T7 rule. Eventually the 3 Wraiths would die, only to be replaced by the other unit of Wraiths in an effort to tie up the Heamonculus to the end of the game which they did.
Bens reaming reserves arrived & assisted the Venoms in the Destroyer shot out that was take place over the next 3 turns.
T4 saw me split the IC’s from the Praetorian's to get them into the action. The two IC’s did nothing in the game. At this point I had a sizeable lead in kill points, but this is where Ben started the fight back. 1 unit of Wraiths removed, Two Destroyer units, Tomb blades shot to bits, Bastion blowing up (see above). At the end of T3 it was 7 nil to me.
T5 saw the Praetorian's finally help in the removal of the Scourge unit with Lances. Ben hid the other unit in my corner for linbreaker. T6 saw the end of the game with Ben left with two troop units hiding near board edges, & two Venom's left (one immobilised), scourges in the corner & the Heamonculus duking it out with the Wraiths. I had left one unit of Destroyers, wraiths, Praetorians, & the two IC’s.
A bloody battle ending up 11-7 to me. It was always going to be difficult for Ben, but he made a good effort in the end.

I should also add this game was almost like old school 40K. - No D weapons
- No allies
- No Lords of War
- No Super Heavy or Gargantuan
- No Physic phase
- Only one formation each

Perhaps we should adopt that for next years comp ( other than no physic phase) that would make a change and as Neil said old school 40k it might encourage older players to dust off their armies

Thanks for the report Neil!
I have already written the rules pack the for tournament next year and it does limit alot making it much more 'old school', but as dean mentioned I won't be around next year to run it.
Like I said, the rules pack is complete, and the consensus of the people I have talked to, along with the early results from Matts survey suggest that us what the club wants.
Just need to have a volunteer to run it . . . .
