Folks, Are the Perry plastics bases pretty much standard for Napoleonics these days? Specifically 28mm cavalry on 40mm x 45mm bases. Ta, McG

Folks, Are the Perry plastics bases pretty much standard for Napoleonics these days? Specifically 28mm cavalry on 40mm x 45mm bases. Ta, McG Steve Unfortunately as there is not a recognised set of Napoleonic rules that are used there is no Standard basing as such. With so many different rules around such as Blucher , shako, black powder, lasalle, wrg, general of brigade, to name but a few standard basing has never developed. However that said most sets of rules can be played if both sides have the same basing convention. I have rebased all my 25/28mm French Napoleonics on 80mm by 50mm (3 figures) for cavalry and 40mm by 40mm for infantry (4 figures 2 wide 2 deep) as a 40mm frontage does seem a popular choice. Of course a set of established Napoleonic rules that are widely accepted and played (ie DBM for ancients and more recently fog R for renaissance) is in my view the Holy Grail of war gaming and in my 40 odd years of gaming this has never been achieved. Although in the 70s and 80s at SELWG we did play wrg a lot and these became the standard club rules for that period. Do you have a set of rules your proposing to play ?

Thanks, Paul. I'll definitely go with the 40mm frontage. Cheers, Steve

Cheers, Steve Steve Your welcome happy to give give you a game sometime if you have some rules you want to try my big toy napoleonics rarely get an outing. Also they are very old dating back to when hinchcliffe and minifigs were the only ranges available.
